Curiosity, serendipity and giggles are some of the ingredients
Beth Ruggles has blended to create extraordinary and evocative figurative
sculptures and original doll art. Her work expresses hope, joy and healing
in her playful and uniquely intricate details of each piece. Through
the flexible mediums of polymer clay and textiles, she engages in a creative
process that dances between the discovery of trial and error and the
discipline of an artist to her craft. Her vision is that by combining
color, texture, and movement with human expression, people will recognize
their own spirit within a piece.
Her magical journey began over 14 years ago by exploring paper sculpture
and clay, teaching classes to kids here and there, and loving the mess
and the energy of working with her hands. A creativity class merged the
magical, musical energies of polymer clay and fiber together in the form
of doll art/sculpture. Her remarkable process of creating doll art was
born. Now a dedicated doll artist, she creates art to express the magic
still present in the world around us. Through her creative process, ordinary
materials take flights of beauty and freedom, expressing the richness
of the human experience. As she feels the doll come to life in her
hands,
the sculpture becomes a direct expression of Self at a particular point
in time, a symbol of what is possible, or a tribute to someone or something
past, present, or future.
Ms. Ruggles exhibits her works in local art galleries and art shows.
She also teaches creative adventures in doll art, for people who want
to experience
the unabashed joy, messiness and laughter of unleashing their own personal
